Today saw the judging of the novice, open hunter and show ponies, as well as the JR riders and all these little riders had a bit to deal with today. Apart from the normal big screen that could strike fear into the heart of the bravest equine they also had to deal with setting up of dressage arena, seaguls, scary brick walls and brand new flower pots! it seemed a little to much for a large number of ponies today so I guess once half a class has turned a fit over the same thing you could nearly judge the class on best cart wheel. The large novice pony champion was Bamborough Mickey J a very pretty pony who worked well as always despite the distractions to take this bow home to add to his already substantial collection, Bamborough Mickey J also won reserve champion Large pony making it a nice way to finish the show. In the small open pony championship NSW competitor Sharon Gillespie won the champion with Yartarla Park Louis Vuitton , not a bad result for a quick trip to Melbourne. Brynie Lee rode Newington Tinkerbell to the reserve . The Plumb family had another good day with Daizi riding her beautiful little gelding Calvin Park Tiny Dancer to champion large pony, yet another broad sash to add to this years stash.

The best small novice pony winner was young Holly Dalgleish riding Monrose Park and Clint Bilson pony DP Charming .

The novice show hunter ponies went fairly smoothly and Kathleen Mullan rode her Buckskin gelding Sarven Park Succeed N Excel to best novice show hunter pony, both pony and rider were more than happy to show there form on the way out of the ring. The standard of ponies today is a credit to the breeders , one stud who has equal success in both the open and show hunter ring is local Victorian stud Leanda, they were delighted when Vienna Smith put Leanda Hanky Panky through his paces to take the reserve small show hunter. Another stud that has been breeding Royal champions for many years now is Owendale Stud, today saw the small show hunter championship go to Owendale Mr Perkins.

The highlight of the show hunters is the boldness of the younger riders, it is hard to pick who has the most fun the ponies or the children when they get to show their pace in the gallop. The large show hunter pony was a super type, Belinda Sibley’s Neverland, a spunky bay pony who moves and worked really well, reserve was Cohen Park Sinartra.

The junior riders were also on today and the champion junior rider was the very surprised Amy Bachmann, delighted with her win from a super class of young riders and Edwina Lumsden was reserve.
