All eyes were on the SWD Images Grand National Show Hunter Small Hack class, going in was the young mare HB Beautiful Encounter in her very short career she has won nearly every title event she has been entered into, the bar had been raised which is always productive as other contenders know they have to go that bit extra. Laura Thomas has never been one to just take what is given, she rides and trains to get 100% from her mounts, her wonderful hack On Fire is a lovely horse and has also enjoyed a impressive show career. Today it all came together, the judge impressed with the ride she had on On Fire and the title of Grand National Small Show Hunter Hack was theirs! The runner up another super type was Sally Shaw’s Broadway Duntroon. The Smartest on Parade was Beverley Richards Dymondz. The top ten; Lyndam Park Valentino, HB Beautiful Encounter, Cheraton Country Road, Magical Ice, WES Merlin, Dymondz, Dicavalli Royal Gianni and L.S. Crimescene.
Judge Sarah Chapman had a great class of riders present, her winner of the Accounting Solutions Grand National Rider 21-30yrs was Melissa Karutz , runner up was Anna Humphries. Smartest on Parade winner was Eliza Meiklejohn. The rest of the top ten; Jasmin Hunt, Brittany Reside, Tara Ryan, Renee Simpson, Robbie Soster, Alexa Ward and Troy Wilson.
The Gallery Equine Grand National Saddle Hack over 16hh, judge Joanne Bates riding the select hacks was impressed with Longborne Esquire owned by Holly Connor and ridden by Kirsten Strath to be this years champion. Runner up was Dale Plumbs DP Amazing, who also took out the Smartest on Parade. In the top ten line up there was Chicago, Black Tie, Naaman Flaunt It, Exotic, Towering Inferno, Saluto, High Fashion and Pikasso.
The Janice Keelan Grand National Show Hunter over 16hh, judge Sarah Chapman enjoyed her rides on some of the best in Australia, Emma Adams well performed EBL Juliett was declared the winner with GB William exhibited by Shannara Beresi and Sara McLeod as the runner up. Smartest on Parade was Samantha McMaster’s DP Destiny. The other horses in the top ten line up; Revelwood Jukebox, Sambics Hit, SLM Skyte, The Russian, Regal Poetry In Motion, Elantra and Rimofrire.
The Horse Deals Grand National Senior Rider was Christine Lambert, runner up was Annie Duffy, from a large field of top riders. The other lucky riders to make the top ten; Penny Ahern, Lauren Bennett, L:inda Brenzi, Malcom Macree, Ellie Mangan, Briony Payne, Melissa Waller and Cassandra White.
The Gallery Equine Grand National Saddle Horse over 15-16hh was won by DP Mayfair Annabel Mulready and runner up was Willowcroft Chance Encounter exhibited by Harcourt & McNamarra. Top ten; Kolbeach Renaissance, Dunelm Royal Occasion, Wordly, Royalwood Center Stage, Boyfriend, Saint, Alkyra Elegance, Starstruck and Concerto.
The Grand Champions
With lots of spectators sitting back enjoying good food and wine the Grand Champions are been judged, first up we saw the show hunters step back in and the Grand champion Show Hunter of the year went to the pony Owendale Mr Perkins, next class was the overall Grand champ rider and if Christine Lambert was pleased with her win earlier it just got that much better, as she was called forward as this years Grand Champion Rider. The Borg families home bred superstar Sonos park Skye’s the Limit went out in very fine company for the last class of the day, the overall Grand Champion Saddle Horse, tough class, as here was all the open champions, everyone of them the best of their division and the little mare stepped up to take the title much to the joy of all connected to her, a super win!
