TB racing industry rejects mandatory vaccine calls; Pressure is mounting for all horses to be vaccinated against the deadly Hendra virus. It’s the fifth anniversary of the death of a Queensland vet from Hendra. Vets have used the anniversary to call on horse owners to use a new vaccine to immunise their horses.

But Trevor Lobb, the Thoroughbred Breeders’ Association chairman, says mandatory vaccinations are unnecessary. “There’s always a risk, whether it be Hendra or from something else, but at this point there hasn’t been enough cases to warrant having mandatory vaccinations across the country,” he said.
